The Hydronaut

The Hydronaut is Tomos first step-up dedicated to powerful waves. This shape has an elliptical template with a wide point forward of center and a tight radius torpedo round nose profile.

This torpedo nose represents Tomos big wave approach to maneuverability, in the same way his cut off nose in the Omni and Cymatic represent his approach to maneuverability in smaller waves. In Tomos words, the torpedo nose gives the surfer a safer feeling in critical situations because of the way it enhances the quickness of direction changes when maneuvers are made at high speed. Tomo has surfed this board everywhere from Blacks to Baja Malibu to Hawaii, and all over Australia. And so has Stuey Kennedy.

Together these two have brought Tomos big wave philosophies to the masses for the first time with the Hydronaut, and were anticipating an elevated level of performance surfing on big waves in 2018. Firewire is also excited for average surfers to find that this shape can do the simple stuff easily: Drop in. Pull in. Spit out. Kick out.

Linear Flex Technology

LFT incorporates Firewires SPRINGER HD, a 0.75 (18 mm) wide aerospace composite that runs down the centerline of the board, representing the next generation in our SPRINGER technology. The SPRINGER HD runs the entire length of the board and plays a pivotal role in optimizing flex from nose to tail.

Linear Top FlexDeck Skin

LTFs deck skin serves as an additional buffer against the ridging effect that center stringers create over time, while simultaneously working in tandem with the SPRINGER HD to optimize the overall flex pattern of the LFT technology.
